People come to the list for different reasons, but we are united by our love of letters. We should remember to conduct ourselves appropriately. As one Cyberscribe succinctly said: "We are guests here and should mind our manners at all times, it's downright disrespectful not to do so." Remember this is a calligraphy list. Please see that the subject of your post is related to calligraphy. Please reserve any humorous and off-topic posts for Friday. This helps us stay on topic and helps keeps the volume down. Using all uppercase in your post is the same as shouting. If you wish to emphasize a word or phrase, surround the word or phrase with an asterisk. You may want to add the word "Long" to the subject field of your post, if your topic is lengthy. This allows members to skip your post and to go back to read it later when they have more time. Please do not quote an entire post. Respond to the salient points and cut the rest. Quoting an entire post and adding one sentence to agree, does not add anything to the discussion. If you must do this, then send your agreement privately. Posts sent to you privately are not to be quoted to the list without the permission of the author. Personal information regarding individuals should remain private unless permission is sought and given. This is especially true if the information pertains to people who are not members of this list. Your heart is in the right place to ask for healing thoughts and prayers, but please exercise some discretion. Think twice before publicly posting states of health and/or misfortune. Do not publicly post names, addresses and telephone numbers. Occasionally members may wish to turn to the Cyberscribes for information or advice not directly related to calligraphy. It would be helpful in these cases if you could clearly indicate in the subject line the phrase "Off Topic" along with the subject. All of the posts to the list are automatically sent to the Archives. Some posts sent to the list such as Secret Pal or jokes should not be saved for eternity. Use XA as a flag for the Archive Manager. Posts marked with the letters XA in the subject field will be removed from the archives whether or not the subject is calligraphically related. Please send individual messages/replies privately and not through the list. There are many Cyberscribes who have limited mailboxes and they rely upon you *not* to stuff their mailboxes with non-essential matter. This is not to discourage any mail which you *intend* for everyone, regardless of its inherent value. Though English is the common language, there are regional differences. Without the benefit of facial expression, tone of voice and body language, it is sometimes difficult to gauge the author's true meaning. If you find a word or phrase offends you, contact the sender *privately* for clarification and understanding.
